Mala Sangre is a tomato-flavored Michelada in a can, a beverage meant to be enjoyed socially at hangouts, bars, and events. This project is driven by a love for typography and color action, as well as a desire to build community by tying it to a good cause: Blood donation, as well as STD Prevention and testing.

Mala Sangre translates to “Bad Blood” in English.

This expression alludes to a feeling of anger, ill will or hostility to other people. It also has historic context in the medical field, most notably tying it to the controversial Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

Based on this, the brand has a playful, catty tone, making it stand out amongst its competitors, but it is due to the heavy history of the term that we decided to turn its message into that of encouragement to break stigmas and urge people to get tested...

“Because it is every bit of your business”.

The Logo Mark was created by combining two typefaces:
Juniper Std Medium, and
Beatle Regular.

The color palette stems from high-fashion editorials and popular fashion magazine covers from the 90’s. Large part of the visual inspiration comes from couture houses such as Loewe and Mugler.

Advertising Campaign

This campaign is brought to life by a series of posters, environmental graphics, and print ads that can be found plastered around the city, in popular neighborhoods with busy nightlife, and social spots, as well as fashion magazines.

The Blood drive is part of the Guerilla Ad Strategy, and can be found roaming around parks, residential neighborhoods, and busy city-centers.

It is a signature marker of the brand for its logo to be “cut off” in its print materials, since you do not need to see it in full to recognize it.
